TERMS & CONDITIONS
The legal stuff...
KJ STUDIOS TERMS & CONDITIONS
By enrolling yourself or your dancer at KJ Studios, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions and any programme-specific policies provided to you during the year. We want to keep things simple, fair and transparent. If you ever have a question about any of the below, please contact our admin team.
ENROLMENT & SECURING YOUR PLACE
Enrolments are subject to class availability.
Where a deposit or advance payment is required, this must be received within the timeframe communicated by KJ Studios to secure your dancer’s place.
Due to many of our classes operating with waitlists, places cannot be held indefinitely without payment. If payment requirements are not met, KJ Studios reserves the right to release the place to another dancer.
Enrolling in a class is considered a commitment to that term, so please choose classes carefully before confirming your place.
Troupes, productions, workshops, examinations and other specialist programmes may have their own enrolment, withdrawal and payment conditions. Where these apply, they will be communicated separately.
FEES & PAYMENTS
Standard KJ Studios class fees are based on a minimum 8-week teaching term.
Some terms may contain more than eight teaching weeks at no additional charge. Term dates and teaching weeks may vary due to public holidays, examinations, competitions, productions and other studio events.
At least 50% of term fees must be paid before the beginning of the term unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by KJ Studios.
Where an Early Bird or other discount is offered, the conditions and payment deadline attached to that discount must be met for it to apply.
All outstanding fees must be brought up to date by the end of each term unless a payment arrangement has been agreed with KJ Studios.
Overdue accounts may be referred for debt recovery. Where permitted by law, reasonable costs associated with recovering an outstanding account may be added to the amount owing.
If you are experiencing difficulty making payment, please contact us early. We would much rather have a conversation than have an account left unresolved.
REFUNDS, CREDITS & MISSED CLASSES
Because your enrolment reserves a place in a class for the term, refunds or credits are not normally provided for:
A change of mind after enrolling.
Classes a dancer chooses not to attend.
Classes missed due to family holidays or other personal commitments.
Classes missed due to public holidays where the minimum teaching commitment for the term is still met.
Refunds, credits or alternative arrangements may be considered where:
KJ Studios cancels a class and no suitable make-up class is provided.
KJ Studios permanently changes a class time and the dancer is unable to attend the new time.
A dancer is unable to participate for a significant period due to illness or injury and appropriate medical documentation is provided promptly.
Any refund or credit outside of these circumstances is at the discretion of KJ Studios and may be subject to reasonable administration costs.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to limit any rights you may have under applicable New Zealand consumer law.
CLASS CHANGES & CANCELLATIONS
From time to time we may need to alter class times, teachers, studios, term dates or schedules due to examinations, competitions, productions, staffing requirements or circumstances outside our control.
We will always aim to give families as much notice as reasonably possible.
Where appropriate, KJ Studios may provide a substitute teacher or alternative class rather than cancelling a lesson.
UNIFORM
Dancers are expected to arrive prepared and dressed appropriately for their class.
Correct dancewear helps dancers move safely, allows teachers to see technique clearly and helps students feel ready to learn.
New dancers are given a reasonable period to organise the required uniform.
KJ-branded tops should be worn with KJ or plain black shorts/leggings unless otherwise specified for your class.
Hip Hop is the exception and dancers may wear suitable, clean and tidy streetwear and appropriate footwear.
Jewellery, including watches, should not be worn during class, with the exception of small stud earrings.
Dancers who repeatedly attend without suitable classwear may be asked to sit out where clothing or footwear prevents them from participating appropriately or safely.
PARENTS & CAREGIVERS IN CLASS
We completely understand how special it is to watch your child learn and grow.
However, we have found that dancers generally gain confidence, independence and focus when classes are allowed to run without parents or caregivers watching from inside the studio.
Parents and caregivers are welcome to stay for a dancer’s first lesson while they settle and become comfortable.
Once your dancer is settled, we ask parents and caregivers to wait outside the classroom or enjoy some time away while class is running.
KJ Studios provides designated viewing opportunities throughout the year so families can see what their dancers have been working on.
If your child has specific learning, behavioural, physical, sensory or support needs, please let us know. We are very happy to discuss how we can best support them within the class environment.
SAFETY & WELLBEING
KJ Studios is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for our dancers.
Our teachers and team are expected to maintain appropriate professional standards and we take the wellbeing of our dancers seriously.
Dancers must follow reasonable safety instructions given by teachers and staff.
Certain activities, including Acro and Aerial, carry an inherent physical risk. Dancers are expected to follow teacher instructions, use equipment appropriately and only attempt skills approved by their teacher.
Parents and caregivers must provide KJ Studios with any information that may reasonably affect their dancer’s ability to participate safely in class.
BEHAVIOUR & RESPECT
KJ Studios is a space where people should feel safe, valued and excited to create.
We expect dancers, parents, caregivers, teachers and staff to treat one another with kindness and respect.
We have zero tolerance for:
Bullying, intimidation or harassment.
Abusive, threatening or aggressive behaviour.
Inappropriate or hurtful comments about another dancer, family member, teacher or staff member.
Deliberately disruptive behaviour.
Serious or repeated disrespect toward teachers or staff.
Behaviour that negatively impacts the safety or wellbeing of others.
We understand that children are learning and developing, and behaviour will always be managed appropriately for their age and circumstances.
However, serious or repeated breaches by either a dancer or an adult may result in enrolment being reviewed or ended.
OUR TEACHERS
KJ Studios aims to provide appropriately skilled teachers who meet our studio standards.
From time to time, teachers may need to be changed or substituted because of illness, professional commitments, training, performances or other circumstances.
A change of teacher does not constitute cancellation of the class.
If you have a concern regarding a teacher or class, please contact the KJ Studios admin team rather than approaching the teacher immediately before, during or after class. This allows our teachers to focus fully on the dancers in their care.
QUESTIONS, CONCERNS & FEEDBACK
We know we will not get everything right 100% of the time, and respectful feedback is always welcome.
If something is bothering you, please talk to us.
Questions, concerns or complaints should be directed to the KJ Studios admin or management team through our official communication channels.
Parents and caregivers must not interrupt or disrupt a class while it is in progress.
We will always aim to deal with concerns respectfully, fairly and in the best interests of the dancers involved.
COMMUNICATION
Important information is communicated through KJ Studios' official channels, which may include email, our website, studio app, social media, family groups and other platforms advised by KJ Studios.
It is the responsibility of parents/caregivers and older dancers, where appropriate, to regularly check studio communications and keep up to date with relevant dates, deadlines and information.
Please ensure the contact information attached to your enrolment remains current.
PHOTOS & VIDEOS
Photography or filming of dancers during classes, rehearsals, performances or studio events is not permitted unless authorised by KJ Studios.
This helps us protect the privacy and safety of all dancers in the room.
KJ Studios regularly captures photographs and video footage to celebrate our dancers and promote the studio through our website, social media, advertising and other studio communications. Photo/video permissions are managed through our enrolment process and studio records.
If you do not want your dancer photographed or filmed for promotional purposes, please let our admin team know so this can be recorded.
Please be aware that at large public performances or events, KJ Studios may not be able to control photography or filming undertaken by members of the public or third parties outside of areas managed by KJ Studios.
PRIVACY
KJ Studios collects and stores personal information required to manage enrolments, communicate with families, deliver classes and programmes, maintain appropriate safety records and operate the studio.
Personal information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and applicable New Zealand privacy requirements.
You may request access to, or correction of, personal information KJ Studios holds about you or your dancer.
We will only use personal information for legitimate studio purposes, where permission has been provided, or where otherwise permitted or required by law.

LOST PROPERTY & PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Please clearly name dancewear, shoes, drink bottles, bags and other belongings.
We will make reasonable efforts to reunite lost items with their owners; however, KJ Studios cannot accept responsibility for personal belongings that are lost, stolen or damaged while at the studio or at an event.
Lost property may be donated or disposed of periodically if it remains unclaimed.
Please avoid bringing valuable items to class wherever possible.
DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
Dancers, parents and caregivers are expected to treat KJ Studios facilities, equipment and property with care.
Where someone deliberately or negligently causes significant damage to studio property or equipment, the person or family responsible may be required to cover reasonable repair or replacement costs.
CHOREOGRAPHY & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Choreography created for KJ Studios classes, performances, competition teams and other programmes remains the artistic and intellectual property of KJ Studios, the relevant choreographer and/or syllabus provider.
Dancers may not teach, reproduce, publish, commercially use or perform choreography created specifically for KJ Studios outside of its intended context without permission.
Where a dancer leaves KJ Studios, choreography developed specifically for that dancer or their KJ team may not be performed elsewhere without prior permission from KJ Studios or the choreographer.
PRODUCTIONS, EXAMS, TROUPES & SPECIAL PROGRAMMES
Productions, examinations, competition troupes, workshops, aerial classes, performance teams and other special programmes may involve additional commitments, fees, rehearsals, costumes, attendance requirements and deadlines.
These will be communicated separately.
By signing up for one of these programmes, you agree to any additional Terms & Conditions provided specifically for that programme.
DISMISSAL OR TERMINATION OF ENROLMENT
KJ Studios reserves the right to suspend or end an enrolment where a dancer, parent, caregiver or family:
Seriously or repeatedly breaches these Terms & Conditions.
Engages in bullying, harassment, threatening or abusive behaviour.
Compromises the safety or wellbeing of another person.
Causes serious or repeated disruption to classes or studio operations.
Deliberately or negligently causes significant damage to KJ Studios property.
Fails to comply with reasonable instructions relating to studio safety or conduct.
Any decision to end an enrolment will be made by KJ Studios management and will take into account the circumstances involved.
CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
KJ Studios may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to our programmes, operations, policies or legal requirements.
The current version will be made available through our website or other official KJ Studios channels.
Where a change significantly affects an existing enrolment, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate this to affected families.
BY ENROLLING
By completing an enrolment with KJ Studios, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
You also confirm that the information supplied to KJ Studios is accurate and that you will notify us of any relevant changes.
Our aim is never to drown our families in rules.
These Terms & Conditions simply help us create a studio that is safe, organised, fair and enjoyable for everyone, dancers, families and our team.
